Pierre Frey - Custom area rugs. Hand loomed. Magic Carpet Ride. This design from the archive; a rich heritage of more than 25,000 documents dating from the 16th century through to the present day. In addition to its own resources, it also includes historical documents from the various brands acquired by Pierre Frey: Braquenié, Lauer, Fadini-Borghi and Le Manach. Braquenié is particularly renowned for its woven carpets and rugs. This brand’s creations paired with all types of documents acquired over the course of nearly two centuries have resulted in an outstanding archive collection of the highest quality.

More than 1,000 gouache drawings, as well as 1,500 carpet samples and 200 samples of flat-leased rugs (Aubusson) and knotted pile rugs (Savonnerie) are kept by the Archives Department. Carefully hand-painted drawings usually depict a quarter of a carpet. They are then presented using a two-section mirror so that the whole may be visualized. Samples of Wilton wool carpets in the form of borders, excerpts and segments depict a variety of models, from small, stylized motifs to majestic leafy patterns and oriental modes that were highly popular in the 19th century.

A number of coordinating gouache drawings and carpet samples illustrate how a sketch becomes a carpet. Exceptional due to the quality of its compilation and the diversity of its styles, this collection serves as a source of inspiration for all aesthetes.
